Bay Keramik

History

Bay Keramik, founded in 1933 in Ransbach-Baumbach, Germany, became one of the most prominent producers of “Fat Lava” ceramics. Known for their innovative glazes and textured surfaces, Bay Keramik’s pieces from the 1960s and 1970s are especially prized by collectors today for their retro appeal and vivid colours.

Bay Keramik Marks

Bay Keramik used white clay for it’s production. The vases usually are clearly marked on the base with a moulded identification: two or three digits for the form, followed by a dash and the height in cm’s. Many vases also still have a Bay sticker, which makes identification very easy.

Scandia or Rimini (after Bitossi)

Both name and origin of this pattern are disputed. It can often be found as “Scandia” and is attributed to Bodo Mans. What is certain though is that it was modeled after the very famous and successful “Rimini Blu” decor that Aldo Londo created for the Italian company “Bitossi”.
Established in 1921 near Florence, Bitossi initially produced roofing tiles before transitioning to artistic ceramics under Londi’s guidance. Inspired by the Mediterranean Sea, the Rimini Blu collection features intricate, hand-carved geometric patterns adorned with vibrant blue and green glazes, embodying the essence of Italian craftsmanship.
